About Red Split Lentils Organic
Red Split lentils are a variety of lentils named for their beautiful red/orange color. They have a nutty flavor and aroma.
Red Split Lentils are by far the quickest to cook of the lentil family. They need no pre-soaking unlike many legumes and as they are split (the skins removed so they split naturally into two halves). Due to being split, split lentils cook much faster than whole lentils and tend to work better in dishes like soups, curries, and purees as they provide a thicker texture, while whole lentils tend to work better in salads or side dishes.
Storage and shelf life
Store red split lentils in a dry and sealable food storage container – we recommend glass. Keep the container in a cool, dry and dark area out of the sun and heat.
Red split lentils, when properly stored, have a shelf life for up 2-3 years.
