Lemon verbena, also known as vervarin, is a lemon-scented herb native to South America, mainly Argentina, Peru and Chine but now is cultivated in many places with warm climate. As its name suggests, is strongly evocative of the citrus fruit after which it is named. It has a bright, slightly sweet, herbaceous flavor with clear lemon note and mildly floral component to the aroma.
Lemon verbena has been used throughout history as a medicine due to the fact that it contains several potent chemical components that are effective for enhancing health. It may help soothe bronchial and nasal congestion. It is a sedative and calming herb which can be used to help quiet a nervous disposition. It has also been used to bring relief from various digestive problems including indigestion, gas and nausea.

How to use
Lemon Verbena is a versatile herb well suited for both sweet and savory dishes. It’s most popular use though is to make tea or added in other herbal tea mixture to bring citrus flavor but also flavor alcoholic beverages. Lemon verbena tea that has digestive aid and relaxing, stress-relieving effects, making it the perfect “after dinner” tea. It’s fresh and vibrant, it tastes great on its own or with honey (or vegan sweetener) and lemon slices.
It is commonly used to flavor fruit-based drinks, fruit salad dressings, fish soups, marinades, puddings, jams, and desserts. It does not tend to lose its flavor during cooking.
If you are making a lemon verbena tea or a mix including it, use 1 tablespoon of dried leaves to 1 cup of water.
