About Handmade Olive Wood Salad Spoon/Fork (Set)

Our wood boards, bowls, and spoons are made out of pure olive wood by hand using a traditional lathe. Manolis our woodworker uses 100% olive wood that comes from large branches of trees during the normal pruning process. In some cases, wood from trees that lost their production function is used. The trees come from the region of Heraklion in Crete, Greece. Manolis is situated and makes these amazing products in a small village called Stoli.

Every piece is unique and a great example of craftsmanship, that will last for a lifetime. You will notice that every piece is different having a shape and grain that cannot be repeated due to the nature of the olive wood.

Olive wood is an extremely hard, dense wood making it more stain and odor-resistant than most, making them an excellent fit for hard-working kitchen tools.

With proper care and maintenance, your olive wood will last a long time. Hand-washing is recommended to preserve the quality of the wood

Storage and shelf life

The best way to wash your olive wood cutting/ serving board is to hand wash it. In all cases avoid putting it in the dishwasher. The temperature of the dishwater will cause the wooden items to crack and get over-dried.

This is the reason you have to hand wash them yourself with warm water and mild detergent/liquid wash. Then you rinse with warm water. Never soak your wooden utensils in water to avert swelling and peeling. After washing, you proceed to dry them immediately with a towel.

The oiling of your board is dependent on the frequency of use. The rate at which you use them will determine how often you need to oil them. If they are used frequently, you have to oil once a week, but if you seldom use them, oiling once in two months will be fine.

To oil your wooden items apply mineral oil and allow the oil sit on for one or two hours, after which you clean off the excess oil, and store in a cool, dry place. Frequently oiling will keep your board long lasting and shiny.
