Wild Rice Organic

€11.50
Organic

Origin: United States

Wild rice is actually not a variety of rice, or even a grain, but is actually the seed of a North American freshwater aquatic grass. It has a rich nutty, slightly peppery flavour and subtle aroma. This long, dark brown to black coloured seed has a delightfully chewy texture. It is easy to cook, it can be ground as flour or used in a variety of baked goods, desserts, and hot or cold savoury dishes. Wild Rice stands out visually. Its elegant appearance adds a touch of sophistication and visual appeal to any meal, making it perfect for both everyday dining and special occasions.

How to use

Always start with rinsing the wild rice thoroughly in cold water before cooking it! 1 cup of uncooked wild rice yields 3 to 4 cups cooked wild rice.

Bring 6 cups water to a boil, then add a teaspoon fine sea salt and 1 cup of wild rice. Bring everything back to a boil, then reduce the heat to maintain a low boil. Cook until the rice is tender, about 45 minutes. Drain the rice. You can serve warm or rinse with cold water to cool it down and use in another cold dish like a salad.

Wild rice can be popped like popcorn, and even if it doesn't get as big and fluffy or puffy as popcorn, the dried and cured grains of wild rice become a crunchy and delicious snack.
