Maple Syrup Organic

€7.95
Organic

Origin: Canada

Maple syrup, or as the Canadians call it “liquid gold”, is so much more than a topping to pancakes. Our organic maple syrup (grade C) is a natural sweetener with a rich sweet aroma and dark golden colour; with a delightful and unique ‘toasty’ sweet flavour. It’s great in sweet and savoury dishes as well as beverages and baked goods.

The product is delivered in beautiful swing-top glass bottle. We are doing our part to close the loop towards circularity by offering this product on deposit (Statiegeld), which can be refunded or ideally refilled in our store with your next purchase.

About Maple Syrup Organic

Our maple syrup from Canada is a natural sweetener derived from the concentration of the slightly sweet sap of the sugar maple trees. Quebec, Canada is the world’s largest producer of maple syrup and responsible for three-quarters of the world’s output. Although maple trees are found in other continents, no other continent’s maples can compare in sweetness to the sugar maple trees in Canada.

Sap is produced in trees naturally to help trees protect their roots from the brutally cold Canadian winters. In early spring, maple trees are tapped (drilling holes into the wood which carries the sap), the sap is collected, then it’s cooked down into a rich, flavorful syrup. As it boils, water evaporates and becomes denser and sweeter. Coming from the tree, maple sap is approximately 98% water and 2% sugar. When the syrup is finished, it is only 33% water and 67% sugar. The cost of pure maple syrup makes a bit more sense when you realize that it takes roughly 150 liters of maple tree sap to produce 3.8 liters of syrup.

Maple syrup comes in various shades of amber, and these color gradations correlate directly to flavor. The darker the syrup, the more pronounced its flavor. Our maple syrup has a dark gold to brown color and very intense deep flavor.

Storage and shelf life

Maple syrup is better to be refrigerated. Glass containers maintain flavor better than plastic and metal. If mold develops don’t throw it. You can remove it, strain the syrup, and bring to a boil. Let cool and keep refrigerated.

Maple syrup, when properly stored in the fridge, will retain its flavor and aroma for up to 12 months Maple syrup keeps indefinitely in the freezer.

How to use

Maple syrup adds an earthy sweetness to sauces, marinades, vinaigrettes, and glazes. Its inimitable flavor pairs well with meats like pork and salmon, peppery spices like ginger and cayenne, and condiments like mustard, vinegar, and soy sauce. It is most traditionally used as a pancake or crepe topper, but the ingredient is extremely versatile. Use maple syrup in marinades, vinaigrettes, baking and even cocktails for an indulgent, natural sweetener.

Maple syrup can be a 1 to 1 for liquid sweeteners such as honey, molasses and corn syrup. To swap out granulated sweeteners like sugar, use 2/3 cup of maple syrup for every 1 cup of granulated sugar, reduce the quantity of liquid ingredients in the recipe and lower the baking temperature.

Add maple syrup to your latte, macchiato and mocha for unique flavor and aroma. If you are going for an iced coffee maple syrup dissolved perfectly and gives a unique taste to it.

Lemony maple vinaigrette. Whisk lemon juice, fresh ginger, maple syrup, lemon zest, and olive oil for a light, refreshing salad dressing.

Flavor Pairings: Sweet potatoes, pork/bacon, salmon, cayenne pepper, ginger, mustard, soy sauce, cream, fruits
